Threema is the world’s best-selling secure messenger and keeps your data out of the hands of hackers, corporations, and governments. The service can be used completely anonymously. Threema is open source and offers every feature one would expect from a state-of-the-art instant messenger. The app also allows you to make end-to-end encrypted voice, video, and group calls. Using the desktop app and the web client, you can also use Threema from your desktop.
PRIVACY AND ANONYMITY Threema is designed from the ground up to generate as little data on servers as possible. Group memberships and contact lists are managed on your device only and never stored on our servers. Messages are immediately deleted after they have been delivered. Local files are stored encrypted on your mobile phone or tablet. All this effectively prevents the collection and misuse of your personal information, including metadata. Threema is fully compliant with the European privacy legislation (GDPR).
ROCK-SOLID ENCRYPTION Threema end-to-end encrypts all your communication, including messages, voice and video calls, group chats, files, and even status messages. Only the intended recipient, and nobody else, can read your messages. Threema uses the trusted open source NaCl cryptography library for encryption. The encryption keys are generated and safely stored on the users’ devices to prevent backdoor access or copies.
COMPREHENSIVE FEATURES Threema is not only an encrypted and private messenger but also versatile and feature-rich.

when I changed to a new phone I had a lot of trouble with the backups it's way too complicated and inconvenient (people who don't have a PC or Laptop loose all their stuff cause you have to do the backup that way 👎) I keep having the problem that the app doesn't send my messages and doesn't notify me about it and the notifications aren't reliable either it's sad that an app you pay for has so many problems

I really like the private nature of this messaging service. For this, 5 stars is not enough. However, this is the second time that it has resorted to crashing almost every time I reply to a message (often losing the message I am in the middle of writing), and have to start again. It would be nice if there was a simple way to send complaints about its failures, but there is no straight forward way to actually contact any live person when there is a problem. Thus tech support gets 0 stars.

Desktop and Web clients does not allow you to edit a message after it was sent, while mobile app does. Why? The mobile app does not support voice typing! WHY? EVERY other messaging app supports voice typing! You cannot watch a video inside the app on a desktop! You need to download it to your hard drive first! Terrible! A paid app doesn't have what free ones have! The only reason to use this app is because it doesn't ask for your email and/or phone number, otherwise it's nothing special.
